Homemade bread is delicious! That is why many people take the time to bake at home. Did you know, though, that it is much healthier for you, too? There is more fiber, vitamins, and minerals, no additives or preservatives, and less sugar and sodium than most store bought bread. The downside? Without preservatives, the bread goes stale much faster. There are effective ways to mitigate this, though, so you can enjoy your loaf all week! It is best to store the loaf unsliced and just slice off what you need as you use it. The next best option is to slice it for convenience and keep it in a bread keeper. In any case, it is best to only keep what you will use in the next 2-3 days at room temperature and freeze the rest for later. Toasting revitalizes bread and brings out the flavors, so consider toasting room temperature bread or bread straight from the freezer.

The unsliced bread can be pulled apart by hand to eat with meals. If you want to make toast or sandwiches, it is convenient to use a breadslicer. Below is a picture of the one that I routinely use. Keeping the sliced loaf in a breadkeeper will help to keep it from going stale. If it is not in your budget to buy new kitchen accessories, send me a text and I will gladly gift you one. I imagine after trying it you will be glad to have it, and it would make me happy to know you are living a healthier life!
